Issei Green Pocket Square

A traditional Japanese Asanoha star-patterned multipurpose pocket square in forest green and white. FatCloth Issei’s classic (Asa no ha) hexagonal star hemp leaf design, customized with the signature drop symbol, brings one of the most recognizable patterns of all time into the 21st century the FatCloth way.

The name Issei is primarily unisex, though often male. Like most Japanese names, it carries multiple meanings. Issei can mean “one,” “the first,” or “star.” It was also the term used for the first generation of Japanese immigrants to the Americas. Among the first Japanese immigrants to Brazil in the early 1900s was a five-year-old boy named Issei. Sent alone on the long voyage across the Pacific to reunite with his mother, who had traveled months before, he faced the vast unknown. His only source of comfort during the turbulent journey was a small piece of star-patterned cloth, which he clutched tightly whenever fear took hold. That cloth and the colors of the Brazlian flag are the inspiration behind FatCloth Issei.

So, if you're starting with just one FatCloth pattern, choose Issei. If you already own a few, then you’re a star. And the perfect pattern for a star? Issei. Circular inference, perhaps—but either in green or gold, you can’t go wrong with this elegant design.
